GLYDER - s.t

"Love the vibe these guys are throwing out... A bit Lizzy, a bit of blus and some killer rock/hard rock"Jeff Waters - Annihilator.

Young, fresh, original, vibrant, energetic, melodic, and determined to succeed would all come to mind when describing GLYDER Ireland’s foremost Rock contenders! This band Rocks like there’s no tomorrow blending all their influences, old and new, borrowed and blue. Sure their sound and style is somewhat retro but to anyone under thirty GLYDER are fresh, exciting and very different to any of the crop of punk metal or nu rock that proliferate here in Ireland/UK and the USA, nor are they as retro as the last gasps of mid 90s Brit rock………. but they are retro, they are unashamedly a modern style Classic Irish Rock band, younger ideas, and in new clothes………..and they owe much to Thin Lizzy, Rory Gallagher, Hendrix, Zeppelin and Classic rock of yesteryear and have no shame in acknowledging same, as well as contemporaries such as The Darkness,
The Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stoneage,
and System of a Down.

GLYDER
may only be awhile out of the teens but make no mistake about it, these guys standard, both musically and stage experience wise, go way beyond their years. They formed just over a year ago in Wicklow County just outside Dublin city. Played their asses off on the Irish Rock circuit, quickly gained a fan base as they developed and fine tuned their very own unique style. In one year they played national TV, made a video, recorded a critically acclaimed debut EP and won many fans and admirers including some top Rock DJ’s and music press journalists both in Ireland and abroad.

By April this year GLYDER t-shirts were to be seen worn at rock venues across Ireland while Irish Rock forums positively hail the band as a welcome breath of fresh air on the scene. May saw GLYDER retreat to the Wicklow Mountains where the band kicked into song writing/ pre-production mode producing and demoing no less then eighteen new original songs.

The band and Management were adamant they couldn’t afford the time it takes to shop the demos for a lucrative record deal which they felt would break the fast pace momentum and buzz. They also realized a serious debut album produced by the best Rock guitar producer on the planet would prove a difficult option and costly but would also prove to be detrimental in fast forwarding the GLYDER project.

Enter ………legendary producer CHRIS TSANGARIDES the man behind the production of many of the greatest world renowned Rock guitar based albums of all time. The match was made. Chris travelled to Dublin tailored the eighteen songs down to the best ten and in jig time, by early June GLYDER found themselves in London in a studio recording their debut Album with their No 1 choice producer.

GLYDER’S debut album is a no holes barred, in your face melodic Rock album. Ten razor sharp songs built around a solid rhythm section that rock out with clear vocals, clever lyrics, punchy guitar riffs, catchy melodies, and tasty guitar solos. From the Get Go this album captures ones undivided attention. Gliding (No Pun intended!) the listener through a diverse mixture of emotions, from the turbo charged Rockers of “Colour of Money” “Taking Off” “Die or Dance” and “Saving Face” to Radio friendly gems like “Stargazer” and the slightly laid back “Neutral Colour Life” but caution is advised while keeping your seat belts well fastened at all times GLYDER go flat out again on the Rock’n Roller “She’s got It” as well as another Rocker “You won’t Bring Me Down” suddenly the listener is lured into the melancholy emotive vibe of “One For The Lost” before being equally treated to a smile and chuckle! Whilst listening to the catchy “PUP (Pretty Useless People)” whose lyrics sum up the bands take on Reality TV shows …………….

GLYDER are a serious Irish Rock band……..true contenders for today’s Rock market……..a young classic four piece. Tony, Barry, Pete and Davy………musical, prolific, good looking, unique image……….in for the long haul and many more albums……….they sound like nobody else……..nor are they four overweight balding Irishmen playing yer rock for beer money and dreaming of way back when, when rock was king in the late 70’s when all of GLYDER weren’t even a twinkle in their Daddies eye………..

They play a retro blends current Rock…….they play their own songs……and occasionally when they play a cover, they add their own stamp to it, performing it with heart felt conviction that would do the original writers proud ……..
So if you can listen without prejudice……..GLYDER should be able to help you out as regard to what
GREAT MODERN ROCK should be ………………not what it was

THE BAND

GLYDER Tony Cullen: Vocals and Bass, Davy Ryan: Drums, Pete Fisher: Guitar, BAT : Guitar and Backing Vocals

Biografie

It all began with a Rock outfit called “Funky Junction”. They were a very popular rock band and they toured Holland and Scandinavia on the pub circuit despite the fact Tony and Davy were only eighteen and seventeen respectively. The band came to an end but the future members of GLYDER, Tony, Bat and Davy kept together looking for further horizons,In the meantime Bat had made a good friend in Irish Blues rock guitarist Aimon (Samuel Eddy). Aimon paired them off with Greg Barnes and Texan Blues man Widgeon Holland for a one night only tribute gig to Phil Lynott in Dublin. Aimon saw potential in the Rhythm section of this one off band “Trouble Boys”A few weeks later the trio where under contract with Aimon’s new management company “True Talent Management”. The played around with the idea of a three piece but the boys all knew the sound they where creating was strictly a four piece. It was at this stage that Tony and Davy remembered a guy they went to school with and a few jams later, 19 Year old Guitarist Pete Fisher became the fourth member of the band. The lads then recorded their first single – Lucky Strike with Robbie Sexton in Ashtown Studios, Dublin. They had not definitely decided on a name yet, but Aimon suggested Hollywood and as time was tight, the single was released under that name. The single got the thumbs up from Hot Press magazine, gained national radio play and awareness and got the attention of the Irish Music Industry. The following months were spent gigging around Ireland, writing and recording. The band made their first national TV appearance in November and by December had shot their debut Video. At this stage the band was like a machine, nothing was stopping it. Blistering performances were followed by rapturous receptions and the undeniable quality of the band was evident to everybody who had the pleasure of witnessing them.In January the band got news that they would have the opening slot on the Thin Lizzy Irish Tour. There were over ten songs recorded for the forthcoming album and the band decided to use some of the recorded material to put out an EP for the Lizzy tour. Still under the name Hollywood the lads played a stormer every night gaining the respect of the crowds and Thin Lizzy alike. The CD’s and T shirts sold like Hot cakes. The biggest triumph was still yet to come. In March Aimon approached legendary rock producer Chris Tsangarides with the bands EP and a fifteen minute film documenting the bands first year together. He absolutely loved it and agreed to Produce the debut album. In the meantime the band had also attracted the attention of Total Rock DJ and Classic rock journalist Jerry Ewing. At this stage the band decided to Change their name to GLYDER.The dye was cast and word is hot on the streets that a serious Irish Rock band is about to emerge and explode onto the World Rock scene!GLYDER’S debut album is recorded and in the mixing stages until end of July
